How to Keep Your Smile Healthy While You’re Sick

Posted .

Are you sick? If so, you need to do all you can to keep your teeth and gums in tip-top shape. Unfortunately, your smile can be in danger if you don’t take good care of it while you’re sick. So, our dentist, Dr. Mark T. Morgan, would like to help you care for your smile by encouraging you to do the following things:

-Keep up on oral hygiene. However, wait 30 minutes to brush after vomiting. You can rinse with water to get rid of the awful taste in your mouth while you wait. You should also replace your toothbrush after you have been sick. That way you don’t increase your chances of getting sick again.

-If you have to use cough drops, use sugar-free cough drops. This is recommended because sugar-free cough drops don’t promote cavity development and help you just as much as sugary cough drops.

-Stay hydrated. This will not only help you get over your sickness, but it can also help you prevent dry mouth. Dry mouth helps cavities develop and also causes bad breath. When it comes to choosing your beverage, water is your safest choice.
